Cadillac Mountain
Cadillac Mountain
Cadillac Mountain, the highest peak on the eastern seaboard of the United States, rises 1,530 feet above sea level in Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island. Its broad, granite summit offers sweeping views of Frenchman Bay, surrounding islands, and the rugged coastline of Maine. For much of the year, Cadillac is one of the first places in the country to see the sunrise, drawing early risers to watch the day begin in a blaze of pink and gold. The mountain’s slopes are dotted with spruce forests, wind-stunted pines, and hardy alpine plants clinging to cracks in the stone. Whether reached by car or on foot, Cadillac Mountain is both a natural landmark and a symbol of the wild, enduring beauty of coastal Maine.
